Historic Day for Irish Alumna

Aug 20, 2012, 3:40 PM EDT

Earlier this morning, the famed Augusta National Golf Club announced that for the first time in its 80-year history, it will begin to admit female members. Notre Dame alumna and former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeeza Rice will be among the first women to receive a green jacket, when the club opens for a new season in October.

Dr. Rice received her master’s degree in political science from Notre Dame in 1975. She returned to campus this past fall to help promote the Joyce Scholars program, spoke at the Michigan State pep rally, and played a round at the Warren Golf Course.

Oh yeah, and she aced the 150-yard, Par-3 14th hole.
