Golden Again

Aug 27, 2012, 1:53 PM EDT

Skylar Diggins has yet to compete in the Olympics, but the senior guard has already made a name for herself with USA Basketball. This weekend, Diggins was part of the U.S. squad that took home the gold medal at the inaugural FIBA 3×3 World Championships in Athens, Greece.

The South Bend native helped lead the United States to a perfect 9-0 record during the four-day tournament and scored five points in the title game to earn her fifth gold while competing with USA Basketball.

There’s certainly no telling what the future holds, but at this stage in her career, it should not surprise anyone if Diggins is starring on the women’s national team when it goes for its sixth straight gold on sports’ biggest stage, four years from now.

Last week, freshman guard Michaela Mabrey earned a gold medal in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. She and Diggins earned Notre Dame’s 11th and 12th gold medals in program history.
