The Irish volleyball team began its season with a trio of matches in the Cornhusker State over the weekend.

On Friday, head coach Debbie Brown’s squad lost a tough contest to #1 UCLA. The Irish won the second set and gave the Bruins all they could handle in the third, but ultimately fell to the defending national champions, 3-1.

Notre Dame swept St. Louis on Saturday at the Nebraska Coliseum. Sophomores Toni Alugbue and Jeni Houser led the attack with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

On Sunday, #4 Nebraska fed off the energy of a near-sellout crowd of 7,386 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, and topped the Irish, 3-0.

Notre Dame returns to Purcell Pavilion this weekend for the Shamrock Invitational. The first of three straight home matches begins on Friday night against UAB at 7:30 pm. Watch it live, only on
