Freshman Friday: Vinnie Hinostroza

Nov 1, 2013, 10:29 PM EDT

Anna Gonzalez, the official 2013-14 hockey beat writer for the Irish UNDerground blog, is currently a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame. Over the course of the year Anna will bring you insight from within the student section, interviews with Fighting Irish players and stories from inside the team circle. You can follow Anna (and the rest of the Notre Dame student beat writing staff) on twitter at @JrNDBloggers.

The third installment of “Freshman Friday” brings you October’s Hockey East/Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month, Vince “Vinnie” Hinostroza.  Just under a month into the season, Hinostroza, a Chicago Blackhawks prospect, has recorded points in five of Notre Dame’s six games so far. Head coach Jeff Jackson has said “Vinnie is a guy that we expected to have an impact as a freshman,” about Hinostroza, who is quickly living up to that expectation.

Tell us about yourself.
I have a 22 year-old-sister named Carli, and we are very close. She goes to school at Valparaiso. My parents’ names are Rick and Laura. I began playing hockey at the age of 3. When I’m not on the ice, I love fishing and spending my free time relaxing on a lake somewhere.
Why did you choose to come to Notre Dame?
I chose Notre Dame because it is a great school academically and in athletics. We have everything we need to succeed. The facilities and staff here are both top-notch.
What are your personal goals for the next four years of your life?
My goals are to make a positive impact on the ice to help my team win games. I also want to focus on school to be successful in the classroom.

Ice Cream or Froyo?

Ice Cream.

Subway or Jimmy John’s?

Jimmy John’s.

East Coast or West Coast?

West Coast

If you had a time machine, when and where would you go to?

If I had a time machine, I would go in the future to see how much the world will change.

What is your warm-up playlist?

Stephen Johns made a pretty good pre-game playlist, so I just listen to that in the locker room. Some of the songs on it are “Things Can Only Get Better” by Cedric Gervais, “Take Me Home” by Cash Cash, “The Catalyst” by Linkin Park, “Animals” by Marin Garrix, “Blueprint 2” by Jay Z, and “Enter Sandman” by Metallica.
