In addition to the men’s soccer team take over the top-ranking in college soccer and defeating #18 Michigan State in a non-conference tussle 2-0, the Irish on the professional scene have a lot to look forward to today.

First off, in the MLS Cup playoffs tonight a trio of Notre Dame alums will be a part of one game, the Sporting KC vs. New England Revolution contest. MLS All-Star and United States Men’s National Team member Matt Besler will once again start along the backline for Sporting while Bilal Duckett plays for the Revolution. The triumvirate is capped off by Robb Heineman, the CEO of Sporting KC.

Additionally, former Notre Dame football student-athlete Cierre Wood was signed to the New England Patriots practice squad.

Continuing to look at past games against Pitt, let’s turn to 2005.

Today’s Trivia:

Let’s talk some football…

Who is the last Notre Dame alum to win a Super Bowl ring as a player?

You will find the answer to today’s trivia question in Thursday’s T.I.F.I.

Monday’s question (What is the farthest in the tournament the men’s soccer team has gone in the NCAA Championship? And in what year?) was first answered correctly via email by Paul Brown (not that Paul Brown). The correct answer is the quarterfinals in two years, 2006 & 2007.
