MONDAY’S T.I.F.I. – Talkin’ Defeating #1 & #2, ND’s “Best Picture”, Besler From 50, A Walk Off & More!

Mar 3, 2014, 10:54 AM EDT

A weekend that saw Notre Dame defeat #1 (in hockey), down #2 (in men’s lacrosse), go undefeated during an entire regular season (in women’s basketball), take home the Citrus Classic for the second-straight year (in softball), win their first ACC match in program history (in women’s lacrosse), finish in second-place in the Midwest Fencing Championship and tally a walk-off win (in baseball).

Now, what did we miss …

  1. 1.     Hockey – Irish Down #1 BC In OT (Boston Herald)
The Irish hockey team continues its strong end of the year run as they defeated #1 Boston College on the Eagles senior day on Saturday afternoon. The win gave the Irish a boost heading into the Hockey East Championship and snapped the 19-game unbeaten streak of the Eagles. Click the link above to read more.

  1. 2.     Women’s Basketball – An Unbeatable Pair (Philadelphia Daily News)
Two of the greatest women’s basketball coaches to ever coach the game have connections far beyond the BIG EAST and the possibility of both to finish the regular season with perfect, unblemished records (UCONN plays Louisville tonight). Click the link above to read more.

  1. 3.     Football – Jackson Looks For NFL Shot (Chicago Tribune)
A 2013 football captain, Bennett Jackson is looking to prove his doubters wrong once again. As the NFL Draft gets closer, Jackson is looking to continue his rise up the Draft boards. Click the link above to read more.

  1. 4.     Men’s Basketball – Vasturia Makes His Mark  (Post-Tribune)
The Notre Dame men’s basketball freshmen continue to get quality playing time and they are taking advantage of the extra reps they are receiving in practice and during games. One of the four freshmen on this year’s squad, Steve Vasturia, is playing as if he is a “Junior” according to Coach Brey. Click the link above to read more.

It was OSCARS Sunday yesterday, so I called out fantastic University of Notre Dame photographer Matt Cashore on Twitter to give me his “Best Picture” of the year …

And then the men’s basketball team got involved …

Notre Dame men’s soccer alum and United States Men’s National Team and Sporting KC member Matt Besler took his chance at kicking a 50-yard field goal. What happens next is something that he probably couldn’t do even if he tried.

Question: Who was the last Notre Dame football student-athlete to be picked in the top-10 of the NFL Draft?

The answer to today’s trivia question will be found in tomorrow’s edition of Things I Found Interesting.
