Friday’s T.I.F.I. – Cowboys Call Martin, Finley Goes West, @NDSoftball Rolls & More!

May 9, 2014, 10:51 AM EDT

I’m just waking up after a late night watching the first round of the NFL Draft. As many of you know, one student-athlete from the football squad knows where he will be spending his foreseeable future, and that is two-time captain Zack Martin. Take a minute to listen to what Bill Polian said about the Dallas Cowboys selecting Martin with the 16th pick in the first round.

In other news, the Irish softball team continued its phenomenal season, moving on to the ACC Championship semifinal round after a win over Boston College. The squad returns to the field tonight against Virginia Tech with a spot in the championship game on the line.

Now what did we miss …

1. Why The Cowboys Drafted Martin (ESPN)
After a stellar career that saw him start 52 games, Zack Martin is now a member of the Dallas Cowboys. But why did the Cowboys draft Martin? Click the link above to read more.

2. Finley Moves West (BoxScore)
Former Notre Dame forward Ryan Finley is trading in his Columbus, Ohio, residence for one on the west coast with Chivas USA. The former MAC-Hermann Trophy finalist is looking for a fresh start with his second MLS club. Click the link above to read more.

3. Second Round Mock Draft (
Although only one Irish football student-athlete was taken in the opening round of the 2014 NFL Draft, it doesn’t mean the Irish don’t have a ton of talent to go in the later rounds. Take a look at what three former players CBS Sports has going in the second round by clicking the link above.
